Question, Persuade, and Refer
(QPR)

What is QPR?

QPR is an evidence-based suicide prevention training.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer. 3-steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide. This training prepares you to recognize a potential suicide crisis and know how and where to find help. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives.

Who Should be Trained?

Everyone!  A Gatekeeper is anyone trained to recognize a suicide crisis and, because of their training, knows how and where to find help.  Suicide is a public health concern for the entire community and is one of the most preventable deaths.

QPR is not intended to be a form of counseling or treatment.

QPR is intended to offer hope through positive action.

QPR is intended to teach those who are in a position to recognize the warning signs, clues and suicidal communications of people in trouble to ACT vigorously to prevent a possible tragedy.
